A dystopian eco-romance for young adults, Dirt shows that even on stony ground, hope can grow.

As a subscriber to this newsletter, you’re entitled to a free copy of the eBook (which you can read on Kindle, Kobo, in browser, etc.). To claim your download link, just reply to this email with the words ‘Dirt please!’

For anyone who prefers reading ‘real’ books, the paperback is available to order here at a bargain price of just £4.99.

Needless to say, Dirt is my reading recommendation for the month of May! I'd love to know what you make of it – please do send me your thoughts after reading!

And I promise that June’s newsletter will contain a top tip for a YA novel by an author that isn’t me . . .

Lazy green wins #11

This is perhaps the laziest, most brilliant green win of all time: No-Mow May. It’s an annual campaign urging everyone to pack away the lawnmower, let wildflowers grow freely and help nature. Even the smallest wild patch can provide vital food needed by bees and butterflies.

Frequently, the only thing we need to do to help nature is nothing at all. With a bit of space and time, the natural world can breathe and restore itself. A bit like busy humans!

The great writer Virginia Woolf said, “My mind works in idleness. To do nothing is often my most profitable way.” So this May I've been following her example, idly watching bees enjoying weedy flowers in the long grass. . . My little scrap of lawn is becoming a gloriously messy meadow, and I haven't had to lift a finger!

Do you know any zero-effort green actions? Drop me a line if you do!

Remember, to get your free eBook of Dirt, hit reply with the words ‘Dirt please!’

Until next time,

Happy reading!

Laura

By way of a thank you, here’s a small Christmas gift: Guitar, a short story set in the world of my book, Dirt. If you’ve read the novel, you’ll recognise Sam and his family. If you haven’t, the story works as a mini-prequel to Dirt, so there’s no fear of spoilers! Guitar will be appearing in a new anthology published by Habitat Press in the New Year, so this is a free sneak...

Hello! Happy November! Book News . . . Last month, I mentioned that I’ve been working on a new short story set in the world of my latest novel, Dirt. I’m happy to report that the story is now finished – apart from some final polishing – and will be appearing in a new anthology published by Habitat Press in the New Year! I’m also eagerly waiting to hear from a team of teenage beta readers, who’ve been given a nearly-final-draft of my novel, Nourish. They’ve volunteered to read the manuscript...
